Vergina – Tombs of the Macedonian Kings

vergina tombs entrance Vergina (Greek: Βεργίνα) is a small town in northern Greece, located in the prefecture of Imathia, Central Macedonia. The town became internationally famous in 1977, when the Greek archaeologist Manolis Andronikos unearthed what he claimed was the burial site of the kings of Macedon, including the tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. The finds established the site as the ancient Aigai.


The modern town of Vergina is about 13 km south-east of the district centre of Veroia and about 80 km south-west of Thessaloniki, the capital of Greek Macedonia. The town has a population of about two thousand people and stands on the foothills of Mount Pieria, at an elevation of 120m (360 ft) above sea level.

Paragliding World Cup (PWC) Drama 2010

One of the Paragliding World Cup events was held in Drama in Greece from 19.06. to 26.06.2010. Drama is located in northern Greece at the foot of the mountain Falakro, which is a well-known ski centre in the winter.


Drama is the most famous of the flying sites included in the Flying Safari Northern Greece, which Olympic Wings organizes for groups of pilots, flying clubs and schools. During this safari the pilots fly in different interesting areas of Northern Greece: Edessa, Mount Olympus, Nymphaion are on the schedule of the two weeks program.
